The State continues its lead in the number of Special economic zones that have been accorded approval by the Government of India, with the total number of approved SEZs going up to 133.

As compare to other States Maharashtra has received maximum foreign direct investment of Rs. 23,981 Crores (533 Projects) during 2005-08 period.
